There are already more Nintendo Switch systems than Xbox Ones in Spain, Gamereactor Spain has been able to confirm, as the ongoing success of the hybrid console since launch means Nintendo has sold more units in 10 months than Microsoft has in almost 50.

The 'sorpasso' happened, as several indicators were suggesting prior to our confirmation, during the 2017 Christmas campaign. Microsoft was betting high on its powerful Xbox One X, while Nintendo kept trying to meet demand, and at the year's end, based on the sales figures Gamereactor has had access to, the Xbox One closed nearing the 300,000 units mark, whereas Nintendo Switch ended up surpassing that milestone.

So far the only official statement referring to Christmas performance came from Nintendo's side, as they confirmed that "Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling Nintendo home system in Spain, surpassing Wii numbers," although no official figures were offered.

If not already, this all points to a similar situation in France, where the showdown between the two machines was around the million-unit mark.

Spain, France, and Italy are traditionally tricky markets for Microsoft and favourable to Nintendo, especially with the Wii and its handheld systems. The United Kingdom (and of course the United States, its home country), however, are big Xbox consumers, so if the same situation is to happen, it'll be much later.

PS4 surpasses 3DS

If we add both home and handheld systems into the mix, another overtake happened: there are more PlayStation 4 units than Nintendo 3DS systems in Spain.

Nintendo's old 3D system (it'll turn seven in a month's time) has started to feel fatigue despite Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon's push, and naturally due to the Switch's own handheld nature. Market leader Sony, however, by means of an aggressive strategy of sales and promotions, has had another outstanding merry Christmas, including a PS4 Pro model that is beginning to spread around the market. In total, both the PS4 and the 3DS have an installed base of 2+ million, but it's Sony's machine that's making a gap, already looking at its predecessor's 3 million mark as its next goal.

With revisions and new models mid-generation being a reality, and with traditional life cycles being more blurry than ever, it'll be interesting to see the moves by the three main game hardware manufacturers for the rest of the year, always in parallel to a PC market that is leaving a new golden era.

With the release of Nintendo’s financial results today, Switch has cleared another major milestone. Looking at the latest numbers for the console shows that it has officially surpassed sales of the Wii U.

As reported a short while ago, Switch has achieved lifetime sales of 14.86 million units through the end of December. Wii U sits at 13.56 million.

Nintendo said earlier today that Switch sold 12.1 million consoles during the nine month period ended December 31. 7.24 million units were sold specifically during the quarter.

Fuente / Informe en PDF

Os dejo un resumen del informe. SMO supera los 9 millones de unidades vendidas

For the nine months ended December 31, 2017, the Nintendo Switch hardware sold well following the launch and sales volume rose
substantially during the holiday season. For the Nintendo Switch software, SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY was released in October and has
been a big hit, with global sales reaching 9.07 million units. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, released in April, has sold 7.33 million units, and
Splatoon 2, released in July, has sold 4.91 million units, bringing to 8 the total number of million-seller titles for this fiscal year
including the titles of other software publishers. The result is that hardware sales during this period totaled 12.13 million units, and
software sales volume totaled 47.10 million units.

Nintendo 3DS hardware sales did not weaken after the launch of Nintendo Switch. In fact, sales grew during the holiday season in the
US. Sales volume was firm in other regions as well, with the total reaching 5.86 million units (9% decrease on a year-on-year basis).
For the Nintendo 3DS software, sales of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, released in November, have grown to 7.17
million units, but overall software sales declined to 31.25 million units (33% decrease on a year-on-year basis).

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition, launched globally during September and October, proved to
be a hit. We also expanded our amiibo lineup with new amiibo released simultaneously with software titles, pushing sales to
approximately 9.30 million units for figure-type and approximately 5.00 million units for card-type.

In our download business, brisk download sales for Nintendo Switch helped push total download sales up to 43.1 billion yen (87%
increase on a year-on-year basis).

In our smart-device business, consumers not only continued to enjoy Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes, which became
available for download during the previous fiscal year, but also had fun with Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, released globally during
October and November. Smart devices and IP related income were up to 29.1 billion yen (172% increase on a year-on-year basis).

Total sales reached 857.0 billion yen (of which overseas sales were 639.9 billion yen or 74.7% of the total sales). Operating profit
came to 156.4 billion yen, ordinary profit was 194.5 billion yen, and profit attributable to owners of parent totaled 135.1 billion yen.

Major software titles due out for Nintendo Switch include Bayonetta 2, set for release in February, and Kirby Star Allies, coming in
March, as well as major titles planned by other software publishers. We aim to broaden the platform’s user base by continuing to
introduce compelling new software in addition to the stable of popular titles that already have been released.

For Nintendo 3DS, Detective Pikachu is due out in March. We will also work to leverage our installed hardware base to expand sales
of evergreen titles.

In our smart-device business, we will focus on operations that encourage more consumers to continue to enjoy playing the
applications that they have downloaded.

We have revised the financial forecast originally published on October 30, 2017. For details, see the Notice of Full-Year Financial
Forecast and Dividend Forecast Modifications issued today (January 31, 2018).
