Cita:MORE THAN 20 MILLION PHYSICAL COPIES OF NINTENDO 3DS GAMES HAVE BEEN SOLD IN THE U.S.

April 18, 2013

Fueled by strong starts for Luigi's MansionÔäó: Dark Moon and PokémonÔäó Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, and the continued strength of Fire Emblem Awakening, Nintendo 3DSÔäó crossed 20 million total units of software sold at retail in the United States, according to the NPD Group.

Some notable sales numbers* achieved by Nintendo in March include:

- Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon sold nearly 365,000 physical units in March, and has now sold more than 415,000 combined physical and digital units to date.

- Fire Emblem Awakening sold an additional 64,000 combined physical and digital physical copies in March, and has now sold more than 240,000 combined units to date.

- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity sold more than 145,000 combined physical and digital units for the month.

- Total sales of Nintendo 3DS software at retail increased by more than 50 percent over March 2012.

That momentum should only grow in the next few months as Nintendo prepares for a massive slate of Nintendo 3DS software releases, including: LEGO┬« City Undercover: The Chase Begins on April 24, Donkey Kong CountryÔäó Returns 3D on May 24, Animal CrossingÔäó: New Leaf on June 9 and Mario and LuigiÔäó: Dream Team on Aug. 11.

Additionally, in a Nintendo Direct that aired on April 17, Nintendo announced or provided more details about new entrants in the Yoshi's IslandÔäó, Mario PartyÔäó, The Legend of ZeldaÔäó and Mario GolfÔäó franchises for the Nintendo 3DS system.

Wii UÔäó owners have a ton of great games to look forward to from Nintendo and its third-party partners, including Game & WarioÔäó on June 23, PikminÔäó 3 on Aug. 4, Disney's Planes from Disney Interactive on Aug. 6 and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell┬« BlacklistÔäó from Ubisoft┬« on Aug. 20. At the upcoming E3 trade show in June in Los Angeles, Nintendo expects to show attendees upcoming Wii U games from the Mario KartÔäó, Super Mario Bros.Ôäó and Super Smash Bros.Ôäó franchises.
Grande Fire Emblem !!! Ahora a conquistar Europa.

Cita:A strong launch for LEGO┬« City Undercover: The Chase Begins helped Nintendo 3DSÔäó maintain its torrid pace in 2013. Through the first four months of the year, Nintendo has already sold more than 2.1 million units of first-party Nintendo 3DS software in the U.S. alone, an increase of 52 percent over the same time period last year. In 2012, it took 30 weeks for Nintendo 3DS to sell 2 million units of first-party software. In 2013, the platform accomplished that same feat in 18 weeks.

With the peak holiday selling season still ahead and a strong lineup of upcoming games that includes Donkey Kong CountryÔäó Returns 3D on May 24, Animal CrossingÔäó: New Leaf on June 9, Mario and LuigiÔäó: Dream Team on Aug. 11, as well as new titles in the PokémonÔäó, Mario GolfÔäó and Legend of ZeldaÔäó franchises, Nintendo 3DS is poised to have the strongest year of sales in its history.

Some notable sales numbers* achieved by Nintendo in April include:

LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins sold nearly 94,000 combined physical and digital copies after launching on April 24.
LuigiÔÇÖs MansionÔäó: Dark Moon sold more than 140,000 combined physical and digital units in April and has now sold more than 530,000 total units to date.
In its sixth month on the market, New Super Mario Bros.Ôäó U for the Wii UÔäó system increased its lifetime sales total to nearly 770,000 combined physical and digital units.

During the next several months, a cavalcade of fan-favorite franchises will launch for Wii U. This includes Game & WarioÔäó on June 23, PikminÔäó 3 on Aug. 4, DisneyÔÇÖs Planes from Disney Interactive on Aug. 6 and Tom ClancyÔÇÖs Splinter Cell┬« BlacklistÔäó from Ubisoft on Aug. 20. At the upcoming E3 trade show in June in Los Angeles, Nintendo expects to show attendees upcoming Wii U games from the Mario KartÔäó, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Super Smash Bros.Ôäó franchises.
NPD

Overall:
ÔÇ£These sales figures represent new physical retail sales of hardware, software and accessories, which account for roughly 50 percent of the total consumer spend on games. When taking into account our preliminary estimate for other physical format sales in April such as used and rentals at $76 million, and our estimate for digital format sales including full game and add-on content downloads including microtransactions, subscriptions, mobile apps and the consumer spend on social network games at $267 million, the total consumer spend in April is $802 million.ÔÇØ
- NPDs final assessment of the consumer spend in these areas outside of new physical retail sales will be reported in August in its Q2 2013 Games Market Dynamics: U.S. report.

ÔÇ£Easter typically accounts for a 10% boost in the month in which it occurs. Since Easter occurred in April last year vs. in March this year, itÔÇÖs difficult to provide a comparison this year to last.ÔÇØ

Hardware:
ÔÇ£The Xbox 360 was the top selling hardware platform, based on unit sales, for 21 months in a row.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£When looking at month-to-month hardware trends with weeks normalized for the 5 week March period compared to the 4 week April period, we have seen declines hover around 30% over the past few years, while March 2013 to April 2013 declines were slightly higher at 38%.ÔÇØ

Software:
ÔÇ£Despite overall declines, April title launches in 2013 fared better than games that launched in April 2012, up 118% in unit sales and 130% in dollar sales. This increase was driven by games like Injustice: Gods Among Us, Dead Island: Riptide, and Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£Overall declines are stemming from the performance of games launched prior to April; for example, the decrease in sales performance of March launches. Specifically, when looking at video games launching in March 2012, month 2 sales represented 25% of the total first two months of sales, which contracted to 17% for March 2013 launches. One reason for this might be the decrease in the number of new titles, which can cause sales of a title to be ÔÇÿfront loadedÔÇÖ with a greater amount of sales happening in the first month of its release.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£The top selling game for the month of April was Injustice: Gods Among Us, which is the first time since April 2011 with Mortal Kombat that a fighting game ranked in the top spot.ÔÇØ

Accessories
ÔÇ£Though every accessory type experienced year-over-year declines in April 2013, year-to-date trending increased by over 20% for the combined sales of point cards, headsets/headphones, and All Other Accessories (which includes Skylanders).ÔÇØ
