Speaking with Siliconera, Dragon Quest mobile producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto chatted about the possibility of Dragon Quest VII coming to North America and Europe on the 3DS. The RPG remake was announced for Nintendo's handheld system roughly two years ago, eventually releasing in Japan in early 2013.

ÔÇ£In terms of [Dragon Quest VII], it has a lot of text to go through and translate,ÔÇØ Fujimoto said. ÔÇ£And weÔÇÖve received so many requests and so much positive feedback about the game, but unfortunately, we have to consider the cost and the manpower needed to handle the sheer load of text. In terms of scenario and script, the game is probably one of the largest in the DQ franchise. If a lot of people can buy it and support it ... well, we canÔÇÖt promise anything.ÔÇØ

Dragon Quest VII originally released for PlayStation in 2001, with IGN praising the game for "deep gameplay, [a] massive quest, and sheer variety." And this former localization of the RPG may make it seem like it's easier for Square Enix to bring the game over, but Fujimoto explained that the company "revamped the translation" for the franchise since Dragon Quest VIII and onward. So there still would be many changes to be made to the script as well as spells and monster lists.

ÔÇ£WeÔÇÖve gotten a lot of requests [for localizing Dragon Quest VII], we really want to do it, but right now, we need to hammer out what kind of resources weÔÇÖd need to do it," Fujimoto said. "We say this a lot, but we canÔÇÖt seem to get to the point where itÔÇÖs justifiable.ÔÇØ
