Cita:OnLive, one of the most prominent services and proponents for cloud-based video game streaming, has laid off its entire staff, Gamasutra can confirm.
These mass layoffs are sudden, as OnLive's managment has given no recent indications that it was facing any financial difficulties, and the company announced a partnership with Android-based home console maker Ouya just three weeks ago.
Gamasutra was able to verify the layoff reports with an internal source, and reached out to OnLive for a comment regarding the matter. A company representative did not address on the layoffs, but said, "We can't comment on rumors, but OnLive is just fine." As of press time, the exact state of OnLive as a company is still unclear.
OnLive is said to have informed workers that a new company will be formed, and that they will be contacted regarding possible opportunities at a later date, according to purported staff emails shared by industry veteran Brian Fargo.
This news follows just a month after Sony announced that it acquired OnLive's biggest rival in the cloud gaming space, Gaikai, for some $380 million.

Cita:I wanted to send a note that by the end of the day today, OnLive as an entity will no longer exist.┬á Unfortunately, my job and everyone elseÔÇÖs was included.┬á A new company will be formed and the management of the company will be in contact with you about the current initiatives in place, including the titles that will remain on the service.

Cita:Joystiq followed up to ask if there were any layoffs at the company this morning at all, and Jaquet could only confirm that "the OnLive service is not shutting down." We'll update this post with any more details if we can get them.

Cita:Kotaku has heard from a source inside OnLive who has offered more details on the status of the company. The source says that everyone at the company knew things were tight. This morning, an all-hands meeting was called at 10 a.m. this morning where CEO Steve Perlman said that OnLive would be filing for ABC bankruptcy in the state of CaliforniaÔÇöa status that affords them a level of protection from creditors. Perlman also said that the company as it stands now would cease to exist and that no one would be employed by OnLive. A subset of employees would be brought on to the company created from the remains of OnLive. The source also said that the OnLive service would probably continue.
