Retro Studios has worked on three Metroid games and two Donkey Kong Country titles. Could their next project be something entirely original? ThatÔÇÖs what the latest speculation is pointing to.

Liam Robertson, who is known for digging up information about cancelled games as well as ones still in production, recently appeared on GamnesiaÔÇÖs Nintendo podcast with some insight. According to him, Retro Studios tends to have three chances to pitch a project to Nintendo. If the concept isnÔÇÖt greenlit after this, theyÔÇÖll be assigned a project that NCL deems more likely to sell well.

Robertson went on to state in the podcast that RetroÔÇÖs new game is something that they did indeed pitch. Pitches were submitted to Nintendo throughout 2014, one of which was eventually accepted by Nintendo.

Robertson ended with the following about Retro possibly working on an original IP:

ÔÇ£ÔǪ And you were saying, ÔÇÿcould it be an original property?ÔÇÖ I think, actually, the time is now for Retro to do an original property. TheyÔÇÖve done two established Nintendo franchises, theyÔÇÖve done Metroid and Donkey Kong, and I think now is the time to let them take hold of the reins a bit more for themselves and do that. And I think if it is something that they pitched themselves, then that does make it more likely that they pitched something original.ÔÇØ

Lo que más se habla, y lo veo totalmente lógico, es que Retro va a lanzar otro DK reutilizando assets a saco, porque DK Tropical Freeze no vendió una mierda y hay que sacar provecho de motores y demás. De hecho, se habla de lanzamiento Wii U - NX.

Una nueva IP o un juego de Metroid les llevaría tiempo, tiempo que les llevará mínimo hasta el segundo año de vida de NX.

El motor no era el UE3?

Yo ya no me creo esa teoría. Hace un año te la hubiese comprado, pero ahora ya no. Tropical Freeze les llevó tiempo y dinero, que no han podido recuperar. Un DK3 es necesario, tanto para Nintendo, como para ellos. Les ayudará a pagar nóminas y a seguir desarrollando cosas nuevas.

Si DKC:TF ha vendido tan poco... Que lo adapten a 3DS, que bien que lo han hecho con el que no me interesaba porque ya lo tenía en Wii, pero luego no lo hacen con el que no tengo.

Una pena porque TF es un juegazo la verdad.

Me pego un tiro como estén con otro Donkey en 2D para NX. Es triste, pero WiiU se va a tener que conformar con un único juego. En Retro no se distinguen por ser fructíferos, no.

Deben estar con una nueva IP o rescatando otra IP antigua de Nintendo (Diddy Kong Racing?).

Ya se sabe desde hace tiempo que Retro tiene dos equipos. Uno grande que ha hecho los Donkeys y otro muy pequeño de apoyo a Nintendo en momentos circunstanciales.

Retro tendría que tener dos equipos, uno para nuevas IP y otro para sagas de Nintendo, sería lo ideal pero bueno...
