The UK Culture Minister, Ed Vaizey,┬áhas told┬áattendees at the Develop conference in Brighton that video games are just as important to British culture as cinema. He pointed out video game development is taking its rightful place alongside the film industry as one of┬áthe UKÔÇÖs most important┬áassets. Vaizey pointed out that┬áthere are 33.5 million gamers in the UK with ages ranging from 8 and 74.
ÔÇ£ItÔÇÖs also clustered ÔÇô itÔÇÖs not one of those industries thatÔÇÖs based in London, itÔÇÖs everywhere from Brighton to Dundee. So┬áit was easy for me to become a champion of the games industry, and push for games to take their rightful place alongside some of the more vocal creative industries like film.ÔÇØ
A key emphasis though, was on the cultural role of games. ÔÇ£The British film industry ÔÇô and this has been a passion of mine ÔÇô has expanded its remit to support the games industry,ÔÇØ he said.┬áÔÇ£Games are taking their rightful place alongside the film industry as one of our most important assets.ÔÇØ
