Nikkei posted an article discussing how Pokemon GO could be called a legacy of the late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. They said that “he was closely involved in the development of the smart phone game from the planning stage”. When Nintendo decided to enter the mobile gaming market in March of 2015, “Iwata wanted to create a smart phone game typical of Nintendo under his own initiative, but the ailing president had only limited time left to do it”. According to Nikkei, “he continued to work in a hospital room until the last moment, using his favorite PC and exchanging views on “Pokemon Go” with Tsunekazu Ishihara, the Pokemon Company’s president and his close friend”.

Nikkei relayed remarks from an executive at a game-related company who knew Iwata well. They said that “children can enjoy ‘Pokemon Go’ without spending too much money. This is probably what Iwata-san aimed for”.

No sé, respeto mucho a Iwata y utilizo bastante (de momento) Pokemon Go, pero... esto no tiene nada de innovador y carece de la majia de Nintendo. Le falta muchísimo contenido o mecánicas u opciones interesantes, además que ya había un juego de móviles llamado Ingress o algo así que era prácticamente el mismo concepto sin el tirón brutal de los skins de los muñecos de Pokemon.

De echo, Ingress es la base de Pokémon Go, ambos desarrollados por Niantic (una startup de Google que se independizó y ahora está participada por Google, Nintendo y The Pokémon Company).

Yo creo que han sacado una beta con lo básico (ahí tenemos la versión iOS que es la 0.3.1) y lo van a completar poco a poco. Ya dieron muchas de sus ideas a implementar cuando salió, lo que parece que ha sido en plan "aprovechemos el verano que la gente sale más y lo largamos esté como esté".
