Dragon Age: Inquisition isnÔÇÖt a linear follow-up to DA2
You may have noticed that Dragon Age: Inquisition lost the number three somewhere between its announce and its E3 trailer, a change which is designed to draw attention to some of its features and role within the franchise.
Speaking to IGN, EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau said the change reflects the fact that the new entry isnÔÇÖt a sequel in the strictly traditional sense, among other things.
ÔÇ£I think thereÔÇÖs always this debate over numbers versus no numbers, what works, what doesnÔÇÖt work,ÔÇØ he said.
ÔÇ£We felt like we wanted to bring more attention to the word Inquisition, because thatÔÇÖs more the story arc of what itÔÇÖs like. ThereÔÇÖs a whole bunch of gameplay and features and big story choices related to how you go through this Inquisition that happens in the world.
ItÔÇÖs a tactical marketing decision. There wasnÔÇÖt anything that strategic about it, to be blunt,ÔÇØ he added.
ÔÇ£We just wanted to draw more attention to the fact that Inquisition is an all-new chapter inside of the Dragon Age universe, as opposed to people expecting a follow-on to Dragon Age 1 and 2 in a literal, linear sense.ÔÇØ
Dragon Age: Inquisition is headed to PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2014. We donÔÇÖt know very much about it but EA and BioWare seem pretty proud of the Frostbite-powered open world and are thinking of employing its systems in Mass Effect 4.
