Nintendo Is Asking NX Developers If They’d Consider Augmented Reality And Mobile Versions Of Their Games After Pokemon Go’s Success

A lot has been said about the NX, and it now seems almost certain, after over a year of speculation, that it will be some kind of home/mobile hybrid that will allow you to play console games on the go.

However, we have been made privy to some information that is quite interesting. Pokemon Go is currently tearing up the charts and pop culture to be one of the biggest things that has ever happened in mobile gaming. This effect isn’t lost on Nintendo with their impending console release either.

We’ve been told by trusted sources that Nintendo are now actively looking to use Pokemon Go‘s success to shape games currently in development. From what we’ve heard, there have been meetings between the company and developers about incorporating elements of Pokemon Go into Nintendo NX games. On top of that, they are asking about mobile versions of titles in development, trying to push that new avenue for the company.

In the barest bones that I can interprut the information I’ve recieved, this means that Nintendo are very actively looking into the possibility of adding augmented reality elements into games already in development. Also, that mobile is becoming a priority for the company across titles.

I will say, from the information we have, I don’t know how ‘adament’ the ask is. Be it an absolute demand or merely prodding at a possibilty, I don’t know, but from the things I’ve heard, I’d use the word ‘active’ in terms of the pursuit.

What this means is hard to say. I’m not 100% sold that Pokemon Go wasn’t an excellent lightening strike at the right moment, rather than a huge, untapped desire for augemented reality. However, if developers are really clever and in on this, it could create some amazing opportunities. If it’s forced on to developers really late in production, I have less faith.
