Empiezan mal con lo de la trama de salvar al mundo del malo maloso invencible y el personaje prefijado, muy bien tendrán que hacerlo para que pueda tenerlo en cuenta entre tantos pesos pesados que se vienen para los próximos dos años.

El personaje quizás puedes moldearlo a gusto, como ocurría con los Destinos en Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Estaba inspirado un poco en el sistema de jobs de Final Fantasy V. Un destino era en realidad un trabajo, y cada destino implicaba distintas bonificaciones (mayor resistencia mágica, mayor probabilidad de bloquear con el escudo, mayor precisión en ataque, etc).

Original story: Lords of the Fallen will be "a challenging game" - an RPG a bit like Dark Souls but for PC, PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox.

CI Games, the company behind Sniper: Ghost Warrior, is in charge, although it's a separate team doing the honours - most of the work is being done by experienced German studio Deck 13.

Promisingly, Lords of the Fallen will have been in development for two years come September. "It's a hardcore game, so we spent a lot of time prototyping it," executive producer Tomasz Gop - once the face of The Witcher 1 & 2 - told me at Polish event Digital Dragons.

The aim is to get it out at some point next year.

"It's a challenging game, action RPG, which means a lot of advanced combat," he explained. "When you walk through a location, and you have to fight 10 enemies, that takes around an hour.

"When you fight in Mortal Kombat, when you fight in Tekken, that's why it takes so long - Dark Souls is probably a strong reference as well. But we've done a lot of things differently. For example, we have a skill tree. I would call Borderlands here, because we're gonna have something like action skills in the game, so classes, stuff like this.

"I would say Dark Souls, I would say Borderlands in terms of the experience of developing your character."

Yes that means trial and error-style gaming, yes that means skill-based gaming and yes that means the game will be hard.


Gop couldn't talk about the online features of Lords of the Fallen but said the team was looking at "some of the functionality that could be called online-ish". "It's definitely going to be primarily a single-player game," though.

Right now, the Lords of the Fallen team numbers around 40. There are 30 at Deck 13 in Germany, 10 at CI Games in Poland, but the team will grow now full production is under way.

Deck 13, incidentally, has been around since 2001, and is responsible for the Ankh and Jack Keane adventure games, and 2010 multi-platform RPG Venetica, although none of them were brilliant. There's a Vampire action RPG in development called Blood Knights, too, but an apparently impending release date still hasn't materialised, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

Dependiendo de nuestro estilo de juego podremos profundizar más o menos en la historia de Harkyn.

CI Games ha desvelado nuevos detalles sobre Lords of the Fallen.

El nombre del protagonista será Harkyn, un personaje que podremos personalizar a través de las múltiples opciones que nos ofrecerá un complejo árbol de habilidades. Harkyn es odiado por la sociedad, pero al mismo tiempo es el único capaz de poner fin a la larga batalla de los creyentes del Dios Caído. Dependiendo de nuestro estilo de juego, podremos profundizar más o menos en la historia del personaje y descubrir sus secretos más ocultos.

"Harkyn no es un héroe ordinario. Nuestro equipo se ha comprometido para crear un personaje distinto y una experiencia de juego única para cada jugador", dijo Tomasz Gop de CI Games.

El título será un juego de acción y rol en tercera persona, con toques estratégicos, con un mundo que explorar y un personaje que personalizar y hacer evolucionar libremente, a medida que acumulamos experiencia derrotando enemigos.

E3 2013: Step by Step: Lords of the Fallen demo
 
Developer City Interactive is intent on making you learn. In Lords of the Fallen, if you donÔÇÖt learn, youÔÇÖll die. A lot.

Set in a medieval fantasy world, Lords of the Fallen takes place 8,000 years after a war between humans and their god, in which the humans won. Now, the armies of the former god are back, and itÔÇÖs up to the player to fight them off.

Players can choose between three character archetypes, all of which serve different play styles. ThereÔÇÖs the rogue, the warrior and the cleric, the fighter that wields a hammer that, although slow, is the most devastating one available.

The gameplay demo follows Tomasz Gop, executive producer at City Interactive, as he guides a rogue character through the corridors of an ancient castle. Gop, formerly a senior producer on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, stresses that Lords of the Fallen is all about tactical combat that forces the player to learn from every death.

ÔÇ£Our goal is to make a game that properly rewards players for doing what it takes to win,ÔÇØ Gop said.

ÔÇ£Dying is not a failure; itÔÇÖs part of the learning process.ÔÇØ


Gop runs across the demoÔÇÖs first enemy, a knight reincarnated by a mysterious light hovering over the scene. The evidence for GopÔÇÖs ÔÇ£learningÔÇØ approach is soon seen, as GopÔÇÖs character dies after two swings of the enemyÔÇÖs sword.

ÔÇ£ThereÔÇÖs a big difference between randomness and skill,ÔÇØ Gop said. ÔÇ£We want to cross that gap.ÔÇØ

After respawning close by, Gop uses his rogueÔÇÖs quick dodges to dodge his enemyÔÇÖs sword, quickly gaining an advantage as he stabs the knight up close. When the knight finally falls, Gop gains a level and points that he can allocate tÔÇØo specific character upgrades.

ÔÇ£ItÔÇÖs important that we give players a feeling of progress, and a feeling of learning new skills,ÔÇØ he said. ÔÇ£WeÔÇÖre not orthodox, though. WeÔÇÖre not focusing [entirely] on classes.ÔÇØ

The rogueÔÇÖs skills are spread across three trees, but Gop says that itÔÇÖs up to the player to use them efficiently, as Lords of the Fallen revolves entirely around skill and tactics. When City InteractiveÔÇÖs RPG releases for unannounced next-gen consoles and PC next year, players will get the chance to learn from their deaths.

E3 2013 Preview: Lords of the Fallen is your next-gen Dark Souls
 
City Interactive had a little surprise up its sleeve this year. While it was revealed a few weeks ago, nothing was known about Lords of the Fallen other than being a next-gen Action RPG for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Today I was finally able to get a glimpse at what this game's all about, and exactly how next-gen it really is.
To kick off the hands-off presentation, I was told that Lords of the Fallen has been designed to be one of the hardest Action RPGs ever made. Quite a bold claim considering one of my favorite games, Dark Souls, has already claimed that spot. Regardless, I was eager to see the game in action, and wanted to see whether that claim was in any way truthful.
Lords of the Fallen is an ARPG through and through, and actually takes a lot of elements and inspirations from Dark Souls. For one, the game wants to focus on very duel-oriented combat, meaning that rather than sending 10 enemies on you at once, you're generally going to be fighting an enemy or two at a time. While it sounds limiting, each fight, whether its a standard enemy, a miniboss or a giant monster, will feel tense, ande difficult.

A stamina meter will dictate your character's ability to dodge roll out of harms way, and swing their weapon a certain amount of times. Though there aren't classes per se, your character's behavior will rely on the currently equipped weapon. Each weapon class, from what we've seen three today, will have its own associated skill. For example, a hammer will allow the player to make a clone of himself, which will in turn aggro the enemy. Daggers on the other hand slow time, allowing you to get behind and score a critical finisher on the enemy.
The combat itself seems a little faster paced and somewhat smoother than Dark Souls, which is a welcome feature. Whether it was harder, that's hard to tell, one because I didn't actually get to play the game myself, and two because it was an E3 build, and chances are the dev's characters might have been beefed up. Regardless, dodging heavy hitting attacks and striking at the correct time seemed to be a necessity, rather than an optional strategy.

The game will have non-linear exploration, but will be broken up into chapters. The developers really wanted to emphasize that the game will hold many secret collectibles and enhancements for those that really go looking for them. The game will also reward players who decide to backtrack to previously visited levels when certain items or keys are obtained, with powerful equipment and weapons.
One interesting point to note is that even though the game was shown off on a PC, the game was built from the ground up for consoles, meaning the PC version is the port. Looks like next-gen is turning development on its head, with PC's getting ports rather than the other way around.
Lords of the Fallen will be making its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PCs in 2014.

Fans awaiting CI Games Studio's upcoming dark RPG Lords of the Fallen ÔÇö touted as the Euro Dark Souls ÔÇö got their first glimpse of the title's protagonist during this week's E3.

The main character, Harkyn, is being described as the single character capable of ending a battle believers of a fallen god and those who abandoned him.

"Harkyn is not your ordinary hero. Our team is committed to creating a distinct character and a gameplay experience unique to every player, as well as a deep, secretive history that players will be rewarded for upon discovering," said executive producer Tomasz Gop, known best for his work on The Witcher franchise.

Users can take on the role of a cleric, rogue or warrior class; however, they can later switch between classes after adopting new class-specific armor. Classes each have special moves they can unleash based on action points.

According to Gop, players will be encouraged to die throughout their playthrough. "Death is how you learn in the game," he said, "you are not punished for it."

Lords of the Fallen is slated to launch in 2014 for Windows PC and next generation consoles.

E3 2013: Lords of the Fallen Impressions

In what can be described as Blade of Darkness meets Tekken, Zack got to check out City Interactive's new hardcore RPG.

Walking into the private meeting room to see City Interactive and Deck 13's upcoming hardcore fantasy RPG Lords of the Fallen, I will be the first to admit that I was not expecting a whole lot. Here is a company that has cut its teeth on releasing a lot of budget-friendly titles like 'Code of Honor', 'Terrorist Takedown', and 'Venetica'. I had heard a lot about the developer and had played some of their games in the past, so when I had heard the news that they were set to putting a lot of effort into their next venture, you can bet that I had kept my expectations in check walking into that small space on the third floor of the convention center. The good news is, I walked out a true believer in what these guys are trying to accomplish.

There is some strong pedigree at play here. Lords of the Fallen was being presented by Executive Producer Tomasz Gop, who was the Senior Producer of The Witcher 2. He had left CD Projekt RED shortly after the game was released on the PC. He joined City Interactive shortly after and has been working on this project for the past couple of years. As a big fan of The Witcher 2, I gave the German studio Deck 13 (who makes up the bulk of the dev team) the benefit of the doubt for their first gameplay demonstration of the title.

Harkyn is the hero of our tale. Let's hope he's customizable. The story is pure Nordic fantasy. Over 8,000 years ago, a war was fought between mankind and their god and his army. The human race were able to defeat their god and the omnipotent being plummeted down to the earth. With his final attempt to break free from his fate, he shoved his hand back through the ground and created what now looks like a mountain range as shown in the image above.

Of course, ages go by and what was once a very important moment in human history was taken for granted as some abstruse event lost on the minds of the modern age. Suddenly, a demon army known as the Rhogar appear and drive mankind back to the brink of extinction. As the main character Harkyn, your job is to learn exactly what brought about the entire situation and discover how it can be stopped.

Play styles will change based on the gear your wear and the weapons the character carries. Although there are directions that players can go in with regards to someone built like a Warrior or a Rogue or Cleric, the character is malleable enough where no one is bound to particular classes and can tailor everything towards the way they want to play (Battle Mage for me), allowing for a unique experience. Skill trees, stat modifications, and crafting also play a big part.

It's easy to compare Lords of the Fallen to hardcore RPGs like Dark Souls where every encounter is meaningful and the world is drenched in its grim atmosphere. The way they framed the game though is that they want to make it as mysterious and as obscure as they possibly can. There is no hand-holding, no long stretches of exposition or any of that, but rather the pleasure of the experience is learning about the world around you and uncovering its perplexity. It is through this exploration and different sets of choices whether through action or dialog that Gop also mentioned that there would be multiple endings to uncover.

The game is very combat-driven and looks dynamic and highly engaging. The battles themselves are easily the most challenging part of the experience. Every confrontation is almost like a boss battle. While running across a bridge, you can see someone standing off in the distance, staring the main character down as if they had nothing murderous intent dripping from their aura. That one battle can take several minutes to complete. The more enemies there are, the longer it can take until you may be in that area for almost an hour taking on a group of those bloodthirsty bastards. There's also enemy variety - not every battle consists of someone wearing a large suit of armor, but could be gigantic creatures or other nasties.

Perhaps the most fascinating part of Lords of the Fallen is just how amazing it looks. When I first witnessed it, I thought for sure it was running off of Unreal Engine 4 based on the great physically-simulated particle effects, beautiful weather system, the smooth animation, and other gorgeous features. Instead, I was surprised to find out from the Creative Director of the game, Jan Klose, that it was a in fact a proprietary engine that was using some middleware such as the brilliant Enlighten that really does some wonderful things with the lightning effects. This also allows them a lot of flexibility to create exactly the game that they want to make. They can completely change the animation system to make a particular part more fluid or more intricately detailed.

The way Gop explained it was that he wanted it to be a game that players have experienced before, taking the best elements of older classic titles like Blade of Darkness or Moonstone. and bringing something fun and exciting to the table. He also kept referring to the fights as something straight out of Tekken. It's a battle of skill and determination to take the other person down, and once you start a combo, it's not easy to stop yourself which can work against you. There's also a lot of strategy to be had, a strong focus on reading the rhythm of the opponent and understanding their tells and patterns, because if you don't, a single hit can kill you.

Another focal point was to keep the adventure as nonlinear as possible- players can take multiple paths that may help them avoid encounters or find hidden items, equipment, or other secrets. Exploration plays a very big factor, and can lead to new methods of progressing through the game.

Lords of the Fallen has easily become one of my most hotly anticipated titles coming out of E3. I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw and am excited to learn and see more. There is still plenty of time before we get to see the game released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2014, so it will be very interesting to see how it fares against Dark Souls II and The Witcher 3 that same year. It is certainly a great time to be an RPG fan.
