Journalist Laura Dale has spoken to a source over at Ubisoft who has revealed to her that the Nintendo Switch’s right Joy-Con features IR pointer functionality. Dale says that the IR pointer would work similarly to the Wii Remote. This would make sense for something like Just Dance which we know is coming to Nintendo’s next console. Here’s what she had to say on the matter:

We believe the handheld, when docked, will switch on two small IR lights similar to the Wii Sensor Bar at the top of the handheld screen, peeking out above the top of the dock. The IR sensor in the right Joy-Con can then be used in much the same way as a Wii Remote pointer. This is designed to be used for touch screen replication, rather than the camera turning and aiming functions Wii Remotes were often used for.

Journalist Laura Dale is reporting that she has heard from her source that all Nintendo Switch systems will come with a dock meaning that there won’t be a standalone handheld version. However, this might come down the line eventually. For the moment Nintendo doesn’t want to confuse consumers which seems like an extremely good idea.

Cita:According to our source, Nintendo wants to launch the Switch with a clear focus on the hybrid nature of the device core to marketing. While a handheld-only package may come down the line, at launch all bundles of the system will include a dock as to not confuse branding around the name. Nintendo considered internally the idea of selling the handheld portion separately, but had concerns that consumers who purchased the handheld without the dock may still think they could connect it to the TV.

Switch no soportaría discos externos, sólamente memorias hasta 128GB:

Cita:It is currently unclear if this upper limit will be reduced on the retail model, but the development model of the Switch does support running software directly off the Micro SD card as you would off the internal memory or a game cart.

In addition, a source close to the production of the Switch reveal trailer has informed us that the Micro SD slot on the Switch can be located underneath the handheld’s kickstand on the model shown in the reveal trailer.
