Nintendo Trademarks ÔÇ£HyruleÔÇØ in Japan, North America & Europe

Nintendo has registered for a new trademark in all major territories around the world including Japan, North America & Europe. The trademark itself, for the name Hyrule was registered on 8th September 2014. It is worth noting that Nintendo has been rather specific with this trademark seeing the exclusive rights of ownership for the name in regards to using it as a name for a physical object, namely video game software.

Programs for consumer video game machines; optical discs, CD-ROMs recorded with programs for consumer video game machines; programs for hand-held games with liquid crystal displays; downloadable or installable programs and additional data for consumer video game machines; recorded compact discs; downloadable and storable image files.

Could Nintendo be planning a new unannounced game based in Hyrule but not featuring The Legend of Zelda moniker? Could this be the name of the new Wii U project which was shown at E3 2014, perhaps a sign that Nintendo are a little uneasy about how far the game is stepping away from the series template?
