This DLC is simultaneously the best and worst thing to happen to Darkest Dungeon.
Let's start with the positives:
-The new hero is fantastic. Very balanced, and isn't overshadowed by any other heroes.
-The new trinkets, even though you have to go to the Courtyard to get them, are also fantastic. They are well worth your time (unlike the Courtyard).
-The new enemy and map art is beautiful. It's a shame you have to venture into the Courtyard to see this wonderful art though.
-I personally like the new traveling boss. We've never seen anything like that before in this game, aside from the Collector, so it's a nice touch.
-Districts exist. That's about all I have to say about them.
Now for the negatives:
-The Courtyard is the absolute worst thing in existance. In the second mission alone there are over FIFTY rooms to explore; most of which have absolutely nothing in them. And once you find the place you are supposed to go to, it is locked. So you have to backtrack through countless halways (which stress your heroes out while you walk through them) to find a key which may or may not even fit the door. It is like an eternal labyrinth of suffering and torture, with the only reward being trinkets that you won't get to keep anyway because your units will all collapse of heart attakcs before you can retreat (you cannot camp in the Courtyard, even though it is the largest dungeon to date).
-The Crimson Curse is horrendously designed. I don't mind so much that it gives you minor resistance debuffs. I don't mind that it cannot be cured. I don't even mind that it can be spread in the town while you are away murdering things. I mind that units can die from the curse because the only object that assuages the symptoms NEVER DROPS. If you get one of your units infected in the early game, just send them off to die alone somewhere safely away from the hamlet. Blood has only dropped for me in Champion dungeons, and even then the game was stingy.
-The difficulty spike is also flabergasting. A level 3 Courtyard quest is the equivalent of a level 5 regular quest. DO NOT bring ANYONE low level to the Courtyard. They will die, and it will be your fault.
-The "Infection" mechanic is also infuriating. Each regular dungeon run you do after entering the Courtyard increases your chances of running into Courtyard enemies in future runs . Essentially, you don't even have to enter the Courtyard to get infected. The infection follows you wherever you go. It is inescapable. It is everywhere.
I would highly reccomend that if you purchase the DLC you not enable the Courtyard. Just enjoy the new class and the Districts. If Red Hook decides to fix the Courtyard sometime in the future, my mind may change. But for now, I'd give the DLC a solid 6/10 because of how atrociously dreadful the Courtyard is.

I liked everything about this DLC until about week 25, where the crimson curse mechanic becomes unbearable. When a hero is cursed, they have to consume blood, which is a random drop (and hence you can run out if you get unlucky), or they eventually die. Further, the hero loses 10% max hp, a bunch of resists, and will randomly pass their turn, cause party-wide stress damage, or attack friendlies. This is permanent.
The new enemies inflict this permanent, crippling debuff at a ridiculous rate. You can expect to get cursed every 2 or 3 encounters with the new enemies, which are not restricted to the new area, but appear in every other area. An expedition to the new area will surely curse your entire party. The encounters seem designed to guarantee that you will be cursed: level 1 encounters are typically two stun-immune enemies with too much hp to consistently one-shot and two enemies with 11 speed.
If you go into an expedition with 4 cursed characters, there is a 99% chance of an extremely difficult encounter boss, named the Fanatic, spawning. I'm at a point where it feels like I simply can't put together a party that can both clear an expedition and kill the Fanatic, while my dwindling supply of blood means that very soon my cursed heroes will simply start dying off. And there's nothing I can do about it! There is no counterplay to avoid being cursed in the first place, and no strategy to obtain blood reliably if you are running out.
This is supposed to be a game that's about preparation, but you are utterly helpless to deal with the curse. It's simply not fun.

I loved the original Darkest Dungeon game. Yes, it was brutal but the RNG felt somewhat balanced so I came out of the dungeons bloody & demoralized but not quite beaten and ready to fight another day. In other words, I had fun! With the Crimson Court DLC, I get my
handed to me almost every time. I'm talking about heros who have afflictions from being stressed out, on deaths door, or just plain dead - all this in the 2nd or 3rd apprentice dungeon I go into - even on Radiant which is the "easiest" mode. Add to this the fact that I don't get the healers I need to replace those that I can't play for the above-mentioned reasons and it feels pretty hopeless. I love a challenge but there doesn't appear to be any balance in this game now so I'm not challenged just defeated every damn time. In short, the game has stopped being fun and I've stopped playing.
Unos ejemplos.
